PRESS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Columbia/LDA Medical Conference Genomes Unlock Borrelia Secrets: New Lyme Disease Findings Published in PNAS & Columbia Long-Term Treatment Study Results on Agenda New York & New Jersey, October 10, 2004─The New Jersey-based national Lyme Disease Association and Columbia University College of Physicians will jointly sponsor a one-day medical conference (8.5 CMEs), Lyme & Other Tick-borne Diseases: Technology Leading the Way, October 22, 2004, in Rye Brook, New York from 8am-6pm, followed by a networking reception. The following research published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Science (PNAS), September 28, 2004: Genetic exchange and plasmid transfers in Borrelia burgdorferi sensu stricto revealed by three-way genome comparisons and multilocus sequence typing, will be presented by a prominent genome team including Claire Fraser (TIGR), Sherwood Casjens (Utah), Weigang Qui (NY), Ben Luft (NY), John Dunn (NY) and Steve Schutzer (NJ). An interactive panel discussion will follow. Dr Brian Fallon and his Columbia University team will also present the results of the NIH funded long-term Lyme disease treatment study. Other presenters will discuss their findings on Borrelia burgdorferi including a case discussion, differential diagnosis: LD vs. MA vs. ALS, and neurologic manifestations and possible treatments.
