Dear Merry, Mitch & the entire Hoggard
Family,
Although I cannot be with you today in body, my heart is with you all on
this occasion. As a mother, I know it will take all of your collective
strength to get through this day and those that follow. But I know that as
a family unit you are strong, you will cry together about the passing of
Ted, you will laugh together about the good times you have shared with him
as a family, and you will console one another when the going is tough. But
you will make it.
You have a deep love for each other and for your family bond that will
enable you to survive this trying time. Mitch & Merry, you are two of the
most compassionate, giving, caring individuals I have met. I am proud to
have known & worked with you for the betterment of mankind. I hope to
continue that work with you in the future.
Some things in this life are truly measured by quality, not quantity, and
Ted’s life is one of those things. He brought such joy to you all. I am
grateful for the opportunity of having met your son. He emitted an aura of
genuineness that I cannot forget. He was a fine young man whose
determination to fight his illness is an inspiration to all who have had
the good fortune to have met him. He was never a quitter, always a
survivor. Even now, his spirit survives. It is with you, will always be
with you. It will guide your thoughts, words and deeds until you join him
in the life he is in now. Until that time, take consolation from your
family, friends, and members of the Lyme community who stand with you this
day, remembering and celebrating the life of Ted Hoggard, son, brother,
grandson, friend, wonderful human being.
Love to all,
Pat Smith
President, Lyme Disease Association
